Review: Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
Last month, we had the pleasure of spending two magical nights at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge before sailing on a cruise on board the Disney Wish, and we’re already dreaming of going back. Tucked away just a short boat ride from Magic Kingdom, Wilderness Lodge is one of Walt Disney World’s most underrated resorts. With its rustic charm, serene surroundings, and top-notch amenities, it’s a true hidden gem for families. Even better? It tends to be one of the most affordable Deluxe resorts on Disney property!
Spacious and Comfortable Rooms for Families
The fireworks from our balcony!
We booked two standard resort view rooms for our family of four and were thrilled with our accommodations. If you're traveling with children and only two adults, Disney will guarantee connecting rooms—a little-known perk that gave us the space to spread out and relax before our cruise.
Thanks to a bounceback offer from a previous trip (a discount available when you book within seven days of your last Disney stay), we scored a fantastic rate. Be sure to ask your travel agent (hopefully me!) about bounceback offers during your visit, as they’re one of the best ways to save on your next Disney vacation!
We were assigned rooms on the sixth floor, just off the lobby’s grand atrium. While our rooms weren’t labeled “fireworks view,” (which would be an upgrade and more expensive than the rooms we booked) we could still catch glimpses of Magic Kingdom’s fireworks above the treetops, which was a magical surprise our kids absolutely loved watching from the balcony.
Kid-Friendly Pool with Activities
The splash pad at Wilderness Lodge, perfect for little ones!
We spent our arrival afternoon enjoying the resort’s heated pool complex, and it quickly became a highlight of our stay. The splash pad was ideal for our 3-year-old, who happily spent hours sliding and exploring the water play area. Meanwhile, our 6-year-old adored the main pool’s waterslide, which was big enough to be exciting, but still very kid-friendly.
In true Disney fashion, there were poolside games and activities, including a rubber ducky race down the waterfall, which added an extra element of fun and excitement.
Dining at Wilderness Lodge: Something for Everyone
Wilderness Lodge is home to some of our favorite dining experiences at Walt Disney World. We enjoyed meals at both Whispering Canyon Café and Storybook Dining at Artist Point.
Whispering Canyon Café is a lively, family-friendly restaurant where you can expect plenty of laughs, especially if you ask for ketchup (IYKYK!)
Storybook Dining at Artist Point is a must for character dining fans. From the whimsical tree-shaped appetizer platter to the rich mushroom soup and the delicious pork entrée, every bite was a treat. The dessert sampler and character interactions (Snow White, Dopey, Grumpy, and the Evil Queen) were just as memorable. And yes, the Queen knows how to tone it down for younger guests!
We also grabbed a few meals and snacks at Roaring Fork, the resort’s quick service location. It was perfect for a poolside Mickey Bar or stocking up on breakfast essentials before heading to the parks.
The ambiance inside and outside of Wilderness Lodge is peaceful, relaxing, and luxe
The Vibes: Rustic Luxury
The atmosphere at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is unlike anywhere else on property. Surrounded by pine trees, waterfalls, and walking trails, it truly feels like a relaxing mountain retreat. The lobby is grand and cozy, with soaring timber beams, a massive stone fireplace, and hidden seating nooks that are perfect for a quiet moment (even if you're not using the fireplace in the Florida heat!).
This resort offers a peaceful, immersive experience that feels a world away from the theme park hustle, while still being incredibly convenient to Magic Kingdom.
Final Thoughts: Should You Stay at Wilderness Lodge?
Absolutely. Whether you’re looking for a serene escape, great dining, or a resort that’s both kid-friendly and luxurious, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge delivers. It’s the perfect place to unwind before or after a Disney cruise—or just to enjoy a relaxing Walt Disney World vacation.
